 AGENCY ON AGING PROGRAMS 

The Agency on Aging's many programs include (CLICK on the links for more information):

Aging Resource Center, which provides one-on-one telephone/in-person counseling and library materials on a broad range of topics of interest (such as Medicare, Medigap insurance, Social Security, social services programs) to older adults and their caregivers, and finds callers help and matching services through programs such as

CHOICES ("Connecticut's program for Health insurance assistance, Outreach Information and referral Counseling Eligibility Screening")

SMP which addresses issues of health care fraud, errors, abuse and other related health care scams

Home Share Match, which helps match those in search of affordable housing with home providers in need of extra income or services; 

2009 guide to services, programs and benefits for seniors, persons with disabilities and caregivers -- Compilation of resources and contacts

Home Care Program for the Elderly and Respite Care Management Programs, programs that provide assessment of need, ongoing care management and subsidized home care services to eligible individuals age 65 and older, as well as supporting their caregivers;

Older Americans Act grants oversight, under which the Agency on Aging grants staff are charged with evaluating applications for and monitoring ongoing use of Older Americans Act funds that support in-home and community services (targeted toward persons age 60 and older who reside in the south central region of Connecticut)

Volunteer, Training and Employment Programs that include:

Foster Grandparents (stipend positions in which eligible individuals age 60 and older are assigned to work with children in need)

Senior Companions (stipend positions in which eligible individuals age 60 and older are assigned to work with their frail peers),

RSVP, that seeks to place adults age 55 and older in meaningful volunteer positions and track that activity over time;

Experience Corps, which trains and places groups of age 55+ volunteers (some with stipends) in schools for 5-15 hours per week as tutors for students in grades K-3 ;

Opportunities for Older Adults (stipend and paid positions in which eligible individuals are assigned to work with older adults with  developmental disabilities; and

Senior Community Employment Program (Title V), a program that offers employment, training and placement to adults age 55 and older.
